 Mercury Gearcase Identification..need help!

I have a merc gearcase that I picked up a few years ago..I have no idea what the serial number of the boat it came off of is and I need parts for it. It is a V-6 2:1 gear ratio case not sure the year...the serial number inside the case is 1647 8675. I can't order parts for it because I do not have part numbers or a serial number for the boat it came off of...I can't find any place to cross reference gearcase number with part numbers etc......can anyone help? Thanks in advance
