Im about to re carpet the gunwales on my center console. The trim on the edge has a tube that pulls out so you can get to the rivets. Should I drill the rivets out and replace them once I put the carpet on or should I attempt to tuck the carpet under the semi pliable trim? If riveting is the option what type of gun and rivets do I use?

Hal, I'm guessing you have pop rivets - you should see a hole in the middle of the rivet. I'd say drill out the head and let the rivet shank fall into the hull. be careful not to drill into the hull. Pull off the trimplate then. The carpet will be much easier to remove and to glue down and trim. you should be able to match a pop rivet easily. Northern tool has a decent selection of rivets and pop-rivet gun/tools.
Hey, I have all day Sunday to fish and it looks like great weather. Thinking Ray Roberts again. But how is JP doing lately?

Lowes & Home Depot have rivets and pop rivet guns.
