I'm planning a trip to the coast (maybe the Port Aransas area) in the middle of February. What type of fishing could I do from the shore? Also, is this a decent type of year for a guide trip? I really don't know much at all about SW fishing, so any help at all is appreciated!

Are you just going to fish? or is there another reason that you're going. February is a tough time to fish from the shore.. wading is a different story, but you also need waders.
I guess you best option would be to fish in a canal for black drum and reds using cut mullet or shimp. You might look close to the Fish Pass area but if the current is really ripping find a cut just off the edge of the current or find something in the cut that will block the current. Jetties might be ok for Black drum as well...
what kind of gear do you have?

Doing a little sightseeing and will fish as much as I can. I've primarily got MH and Heavy bass fishing gear. What about going on a party boat or a guided trip this time of year?
