I have a Tracker Pro185 with a 90HP Mercury. It came with an aluminum prop, which I have had to repair. I want to upgrade to a stainless prop. What are the "good" brands. I really don't want to spend more than about $300.00

Thanks...

_Hey IThompon: To stay under $300 you might try a dealer for a used prop.

What pitch Are you looking for I think you will need a 20 or 22 pitch because you problable have a 21 pitch aluminum and they only make even number pitch props in stainless the prop I have is a mercury Laser II If interested can check and will take 250.00 Thanks OPTI

I have thought of trying eBay, but I am worried that the prop I get may have been damaged and repaired, etc.

There are a ton of brands available if you do a search online. There is one at acepropellar.com for $279, discounted, and I can by an Express for about the same. Are these brands any good, or should I stick with the Mercurey brands like the Laser II.

Opti,

I will probably go for the 22" pitch. Hole shot is great with the 21" aluminum, and probably wont suffer much if I go to 22". Is the one you have in good shape? Ever been repaired?

Thanks..

20-22 is way too much prop when you go to a stainless on a 90. I'm thinking more like an 18".

With a stainless prop your RPMs are going to drop, therefore you can go to a smaller pitch.

A 20" Laser II is the max I'd go. That is the prop I have on my 115 Merc with a 17' Ranger Fish 'n Ski for 46 mph at 5300-5350 rpms with just me and full gear. You have to remember that the Laser II has a whole lot more cup than your current 21" pitch aluminum. This will lower the rpms to that of the aluminum or even lower.

You might want to go by James Propeller at I-35 and Valwood or Valley View (not sure which one). He always has a big display of used and new props of all types. He has always treated me right and charged a reasonable price. He probably can give you some advice on which prop would be right for your application.

Trial and error is the only way to get the best prop for your boat. And dont forget that it can change with load. Best to go to a prop shop where you can buy a prop and they will let you bring it back if you dont like the performance and try another one till you are totaly satisfied.
