I saw a couple of references to the Toledo Bend Water Sales Proposal and would like to offer some information. I am an outdoor writer, live on Toledo Bend, and have some concerns that I addressed to SRA-Louisiana before Christmas. I have no vendetta here - just want to be sure that information is received to make quality decisions. The link to my letter is at - http://www.tb-guide.com/modules.php?name=News&file=print&sid=406-- Jim Binns

He mentins alot of the concerns i had when i first heard about proposed water sales. Did you get any response from Prat? Toledo bend area is definetely hurting right now. I know a couple businesses that went bankrupt of foreclosure sales. At least it looks like it is coming up some for now.

Sell all they want, bring in the disposal wells, big money needs to be made, chunk toursit and home owners by the waist side. The Texas side does nothing to promote the lake so they might as well sell the water. I can't wait to get out of here. Come on big machine get fired up and let's drain this puppy before the real word get's out.

All Lakes in Texas are built for water usage, not fishing- Dallas was ordered to open their lakes up to the Northeast tx ( theirs already very low) water district a few weeks ago - it is a new Bad day that approches with the population in Texas tripling since the last major lake was built- you know those swimming pools have to filled

Thats right they need to use the resource, for those of us that moved out here, well a smarter choice should have been made as one guy on a closed thread put it. So I say sell away!!!!!!!!

Texas has had a drought contigency plan in place for some years now that delegates where and how our water resources should be used. This is not a new plan being proposed, but part of one that that has been in place and is now being considered for implementation due to our drought conditions.
The Toledo Bend impoundment project was funded privately through the sales of bonds by both Louisiana and Texas. The bonds clearly defined the use of the resource. Texas bonds prioritized power generation, water supply, and flood control. Recreation is down the list, which is why it was so difficult to establish 168msl and why 168msl is mainly a courtesy agreement.
It does upset me to see people in larger cities freely watering their lawns while I live on the lake and carefully dole out just enough water to keep my drought-tolerant plants going, however I realize that that attitude is the equivalent of crying over spilled milk. We wouldn't have a lake at all if it weren't for the bonds sold to create it and the sales of the resources our lake water now brings.

You mention a "disposal well" but not all the grey water from septic tanks that folks live there are putting into the lake???
