Only problem I see, is what caused the motor to go south? If this is a VRO motor you need to have a new VRO with pulse valve on it, all cooling system parts replaced (water pump, cooling sleeves and thermostats) Make shure they install new rod bolts. Oil reservoir system will need cleaned and checked completely. Yes I know motors just get tired but if they are taken care of they last a long time. Customers with a 1984-1989 150 Johnsons that still run great. They all use Phillips 66 Injexs oil and do regular maintinance.

In my opinion, I would have the oil injection system removed & put in my own oil each time I put in 6 gallons of gas, 1 pint OMC oil, motor will not blow from lack of oil that way! I do not trust VRO systems, I blew a 120 Evinrude all over Lakeside Village from VRO stopped working!

I bought this boat used 2 years ago and it never ran right. Not knowing much about boats ( really nothing) it had 0 hole shot but when it got up on plain I thought it was fine not really knowing what it was suppost to do. But when I slowed down and come to a stop it would die. Then found out it was suppost to be running about 5000 to 5500 rpm's wide open and I was only getting about 4200 to 4300 rpm's. MECH. checked it out told me it was sucking air between head and block after he got inside told me about bad pistons and that it had been over hauled before he told me he sent the block out and the cylinders were not round and he would have to replace all pistons. This boat is a 1990
model. It is a VRO
