There is a very active application before the Texas Railroad Commission to build an injection well along with all its associated storage and handling facilities within 320 yards of the lake. There will be a hearing in Austin in the next few days. These permits are usually approved or disapproved in very short order. They are usually approved because of the short cycle from notification to approval.

We local residents where totally surprised by this a couple days ago and are trying to get our feet under us so that we can get this crazy idea stopped. Would you believe they waited until the holidays to try and sneak this in. Sure you do.

Plug these coordinates in Google Earth, N31 27 39.80 W93 45 27.66, and you can see that the proposed site is surrounded on three sides by the lake all within less than a half mile.

Please do whatever you can to draw attention to this matter. The clock is ticking fast.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Could you please explain how an injection well will adversely affect Toledo Bend.

I have no issue with an injuction well, it's the best way to get rid of saltwater and all kinds of contaminated drilling fluids. It's done all over the country with success.

The problem with this issue is that it is within spitting distance of the lake which means that any accidental spillage will have an excellent chance of getting in the lake before any emergency response can be manned.

Well let me ask a question..The news companies would like nothing more than to run a story in the 5 oclock news about a huge spill at one of these sights..With 1000's of wells now in Texas how many stories have been ran on how a company let hundreds or thousands of barrels of contaminanted fluid spill into a lake or river? I am setting here looking at an injection well as I type this and counted 5 different safety systems to keep fluid from hitting the ground.Other than an act of God there is next to no chance this water getting into Toledo Bend..Stop worrying and finish your coffee.

This doesn't seem like the lake is under attack to me....they arent gonna pump stuff straight into the lake. The probability of an ACCIDENTAL spill is very unlikely. The have the EPA so far up their butt that the precautions will be in place to prevent spills. I think it will be ok...my 2 cents.

Bobby, if you want to get some traction you need to find evidence of injection wells leaking into the surrounding aquifer(s). If there is any such evidence.

Putting up a fight over "accidental spillage" won't get you anywhere. Tons of regulations and safeguards in place to prevent spillage.

There are tons of regulations and safety precautions to prevent the spillage of fluid. Fracking pays my bills so I see nothing wrong with putting an injection well in, also do some research on the Horizon oil spill of last summer, that was crude oil escaping and there have not been near as many adverse effects on fish/wildlife as expected.

I am sure that there are several WasteWater Treatment Package plants AND homeowner sewer package plants just as close to the lake. The chances of a homeowner running their wastwater to the lake is much higher than a Commercially TCEQ regulated Injection Well or a Community Wastewater Treatment Plant. The injection well could possibly develop a leak BUT in comparison to the existing POSSIBLE leaks and runoffs from homeowner wastewater systems, I would think the Injection Well is at the bottom of the DANGER list. I do know that there is significant enforcement of the "Control Zone" and oversight along the lakes (Rayburn and Toledo Bend) by the TCEQ. (TCEQ - Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is the State agency governing discharge of any wastwater discharge and they are very picky about the lakes and the control zone around them.)
(I have a Class C Wastewater and Class D Water license and used to run a Facility Wastewater treatment plant.)

Actually all of the septic systems around the lake DO contaminate the lake. An injection well will not have any adverse effect on the lake or the aquifers.
There is way too much uneduacated publicity concerning fracing and injection wells.

Retirement best job ever.

To add one more thought this well will also have surface casing down to about three thousand feet with cement surrounding that all the way down. The fluid would have to get threw two sets of casing and cement. The casing will be pressure tested before the first fluid is pump down and will be tested every two years I believe going forward. When the trucks come in to inject they will have safety valves. I am not saying it can not happen but there is a pretty good chance that there were never be fluid hit the lake

It is the old "It is fine, just not in my back yard"position.

Folks go out of their way to avoid paying fees/taxes and choose to live in an unincorporated and unprotected area and then despise those living in townsships and Home Owners Associations. They purchase lower cost lands/properties and avoid paying high municipal taxes, and don't want to ever be restricted by tight zoning restrictions.... until they disagree with something being legally done next door on land they did not purchase.

If the injection well doesn't make sense environmentally, the Railroad commission has fine expertise available and is fully capable of recognizing it.

people should be able to do with privatly owned property that they pay taxes on whatever they want to if you dont like it you can buy the property then you can have control of it or sell yours an move to another area as far as the injection well goes it is probly less likly to damage the resource than the outdated septic systems that are used on a lot of lake property with little or no oversight.
