I know quite a few of you are trying out the Alabama-Rig and I would like to offer a tip on baits. Most folks are looking for a 1/8 to 1/4-oz jighead (with a quality hook) and then purchasing swimbaits bodies from various companies. Most of the swimbaits are 5-inch and both the jighead and swimbaits can be pricey.

Take a look at the Creme Lure Company 3-inch Spoiler Shad Swimming Bait. The colors are absolutely great, it has a good hook and the lead is already molded into the plastic body. All I had to do was just snap it on the A-rig.

I like the 3" storm wildeye swim baits or there is a Berkley powerbait one just like it.

I agree, soft plastic swim baits cost too much...

Not to highjack the thread but why do you need a jig head? Would a swimbait hook or just a bare ewg hook work?

Jay..you will be fishing suspended fish (mostly) and with out the weigh of the heads, you will not get it deep enough..
I fished one at Texoma with 1/8 oz heads and couldn't get her down..Mine was not weighted at the head/tie..
