Have you ever had a SI unit before or a transducer of that size? You are dealing with more than just a small 2D transducer. To post a picture, you have to have a host site for the picture like Photobucket, then put the link to the picture in the message box here and it will show up. The link to use is the one that has img at both ends.
If you want, you can send the picture to me via email and I'll critique it for you. purdum43@aol.com

I am installing an 1198 on the dash and a 798 HD on the bow. I am also installing INTERLINK. I got a thru transom for the 1198. Can I use the same thru transom transducer for the 798 on the bow thru the INTERLINK? If so do I want to? If not should I get another thru Hull for the 798 and move it closer to the bow? I am really trying to avoid a transducer on my trolling motor. Or is that wrong thinking and I should get the trolling motor transducer too?
Thanks for any help guys. I am new to this product.

If you have a 798ci HD I would recommend the Ethernet versus InterLink. Alot of reasons. One being able to share hardware like the transducer, GPS Receiver, Temp Probe and new accessories coming plus the speed of data transfer is faster with Ethernet than InterLink. But you have to have the HD 798 model. You will need an adapter cable and ethernet cable to hookup.
I personally like the SI on the trolling motor. WIth Ethernet you could switch back and forth but to me having data from the trolling motor is more beneficial.

Yes I am getting the 798ci hd si. So should I still get a troling tranducer as well? i thought Interlink did all the things you say a ethernet did?

Interlink will not allow for sharing a transducer. You should be using Ethernet. Those units are Ethernet capable. Also with the Ethernet connection, there is no extra box and cables, just the single Ethernet cable that gives faster and more inter-unit communication functions. You will need the Ethernet adaptor (AS EC QDE) for the 798ci HD SI If you fish, a trolling motor mounted SI transducer is way more functional.

I don't think the 997 has an Ethernet port. That port is round with threads on the outside of the connection. It is covered by a rubber plug.

Additionally the Ethernet connection is not part of the cable collector on the 800, 900, and 1100 series units. It is on The 798ci HD SI.

Humminbird 2012 Software Update for the 898c and 998c... You will have the ability to remove the readout boxes on the Left side of your Side Imaging View and now have the depth and the temp displayed at the bottom of the screen. Now you can maximize your viewing area for Side Imaging. This software will be released in January for the 898 and the 998.

I just installed a 1198 and a 898. I also added a thru hull transducer. I used a Y cable for the factory 1198 and thru hull transducer. I cannot get eh thru hull to show up on networking. I looked closer at the Y cable box and it only mentions 1197 compatible. Is that issue?

The Y Cable splits the 2D readings out of the SI Transducer to a second 2D Transducer. The unit sees alls the elements and see it as a complete SI Transducer so you will see only one transducer listed on the Ethernet Menu for the 1198c.

I am planning on installing a 798 on my Sea Ark Stealth. Problem is, the transom is stairstepped and the water intake is directly in the way if I put the transducer 15" away from motor. I would have to put it about 12" to the side of the motor and drop it down so the top of ducer is about 1/2" below the bottom of the boat. Will this work or by the pic does anyone see a better way to install the transducer? Like directly in front of the bottom bunk board which would put the transducer only about 8" away from motor but away from rib and below the intake.(?) Thanks for any and all help.

You could possibly block it back but may need to trim the motor to see to the opposite side. Might talk to www.transdcuershieldandsaver.com they have a neat spring back bracket that will add some extra protection for that mounting location too.
