I found a 83 model 15.6 Dyna Trak, with a 115 Hp Johnson motor. This boat has depth finder at the driver seat, graph up front, trolling motor, and normal dash guages. Now for the bad stuff. Its been sitting outside in weather for 6 years i beleive. The seat wood is rottin, but doesnt bother me. The Steering is will not move but just a little bit. And all carpet is rotted off the top of boat. The Hull is fiberglass it seems to be solid, but im not real knowledgable about buying boats. And the forward Reverse controls seem a little stiff. Trailer is in good shape no rust. I think its galvanised. i think the motor would start with a little routine clean up. The Price is only $1000. What do you guys think. Btw the motor seems very clean no sign of leaks of oil or anything. Any advice i would appreciate

Personally I think you can find something in that price range that requires less work. I just purchased a used boat and had to pass up a lot of stuff, but I got what I was looking for, for the price I was looking for. Keep I eye on ,www.boattraderonline.com, www.dallasmorningnews.com (if you are around here), www.thriftynickelads.com, and www.thegreensheet.com. I have noticed alot more in the dallas morningnews the past 2 weeks, especially on sat.

It depends on how handy you are with repairing the obvious stuff, how much money you are willing to spend on repairs and the the bottom line ? is will the engine run ???? The steering cable is probably shot from corrosion and rust $85-$140 parts or $250-$350 installed, marine grade carpet ?$25 a yard + glue or 5-7 hours to remove old carpet & 5+ hours to install new carpet, seats @ $25 Wally World specials to $150+ each for factory styled bass chairs + posts (& oh by the way are the seatpole base's in rotten flooring?) Bottom Line is ...the boat sounds like a $250/$300 value that is going to require a determined effort at TLC & the ability to do the work yourself if you want to come close to breaking even on the value of the boat AFTER everything is repaired. I have neighbor at Texoma who has an old Kingfisher in the same condition, who just retired and is determined to restore his hunk of junk no matter what it costs & no matter if it will always be a hunk of junk 'cause it is HIS hunk of junk. Pony up what you estimate all the repairs will cost (and don't ASSUME the engine will run!!!! IT EITHER RUNS BEFORE YOU BUY IT OR IT DOESN'T RUN AT ALL !!!!) AND GO SHOP UNTIL YOU FIND SOMETHING THAT SOME OTHER POOR SOUL HAS BROKEN HIS HEART & WALLET OVER!!!! Been there & done this too many times. Shop the dealers who are taking tradeins from the boat shows and looking to unload all the older stuff and will give you some sort of warranty better than 30 feet off the property... especially on the engine. I'd look to spend somewhere in the $2500 to $3000 range for a boat of this or little larger size with this size engine with everything in good shape, and then reserve another $250/$500 for unforseen repairs/ new batteries/ new tires yadda yadda. Old boats like old cars are only worth what some fool believes they are worth and willing to pay for. I keep having to buy that education and I won't charge you a dime for the short course.... and you always want to drive the boat for as long as you want with the owner in it with you to explain why this or that happened or works the way it does instead of how you thought it was SUPPOSED TO WORK. Good Luck RV
PS
A year after you buy something you want to be able to look back at the cost of the investment, the pleasure you got from the investment and be able to smile.. no matter what it costs new used or otherwise. RV
