I need to remove a Transducer that is glued in the bottom of my boat. Tried pulling it out and no go. Is there something out there that I can pour on the glue to make it soft so I can pull the transducer out?

None I know of. On mine, I took a 2X4 and used it as a lever & popped it out. Most of the glue came with it. Really didn't take much force at all. What was left in the hull, I used a sharp putty knife & hammer to get out. ------------------

If it is epoxy ( which it should be) I do not believe that anything will remove it except heat..(watch out- I'll bet that the fibreglass on your boat will go before the epoxy does).
You might try some Acetone which is used to clean up fresh epoxy, but it might melt your boat first!!! I really don't think that Acetone will help once epoxy has cured.
You could experiment by mixing up a batch of epoxy ( buy it at any hardware store) and trying a number of things on it.
When I glue new golf club heads on, I remove the old ones (affixed by epoxy) by simply heating the shaft and pulling. That doesn't sound like a reasonable option on a boat bottom.
If I had that problem, I might try to figure out a way to pull a heated wire through the epoxy, without touching the boat bottom. Sounds scary to me!
Sorry I don't have a good answer for you. RichG

Leave it put... if it doesn't come out easily, cut the wire and buy a new transducer. You'll ruin the fiberglass b4 the epoxy breaks.

A possible solution....I haven't tried this so you are at risk on your own.
But, if the T'ducer MUST come up..you might get a 110 v. soldering gun. Remove the soldering tip and replace it with a six/or/eight inch piece of copper wire, formed into a circle. Press the trigger and see if the wire doesn't glow or at least become very hot.
If that works ( it should) , you should be able to hook the wire around the bottom of one end of the T'ducer, and melt your way through the epoxy, or at least heat it enough to start to break its bond. Put upward pressure on the T'ducer while slicing through the epoxy, and you may get it off. Caution. I HAVE NOT TRIED THIS... but see no reason why it wouldn't work. Personally, I'd find another spot to glue on another T'ducer. RichG

Have done it the way TxChamp said and also with factory installed ones I have taken a 2 x 4 and gave it a sharp rap with a hammer(small sledge) and it popped right off.

True, shear forces can USUALLY knock the transducer loose. A sharp rap with a hammer has done it for me in the past after I scored the epoxy around the transducer with a Dremmel tool. It is in my opinion the best solution. There is an epoxy solvent (Dynasolv 165) commercially available that will dissolve any epoxy resin. However, it is toxic and requires some very special handling procedures. It may not be available at the consumer level. This stuff would also dissolve the boat if it stayed long enough in the bilge area. Not a good thing. http://www.dynaloy.com/dynasolve165.htm Bob [This message has been edited by Bob Davis (edited 11-17-2003).]

I have taken them out many times. You need to get access to a cut off tool and put a 3" wheel on it and cut into the epoxy "lip" all the way around. I take it you are removing a bad one so dont worry about cutting into the unit itself. Just concentrate on keeping the wheel parallel with the bottom. Once you complete the cut, take a hammer and give it a sharp tap on the side and it will pop right off. If it is a good Transducer, leave it. You might be able to use it later or when you sell it, put the old graph back on for the next owner and let him deal with it. good luck

I almost forgot, use all the PPE (dust mask, goggles, gloves, etc.) When you are head first in that compartment, cutting away, you will enjoy life a little more afterwards.

Thanks men for the replys, at least now I have somewhere to start to try and get it out. The only reason I wanted it out is because I sold the Global Mapping 2000 unit and the transduce was suppose to go with it. If I can't get it out, I'll have to buy a new one for him or come up with something else that TX Champ has offered to do for me. Again Thanks to all who tried to help.
