I have gotten help several times on this board from you all and I appreciate it. I have a problem that makes no sense to me. A while back, while docking, another boat came in fast and caused my boat to bang into the dock. When this happened, the throttle arm hit the dockwhile the engine was on and it killed the engine. The boat started back up fine, but would die when I put it into gear. It would go a little ways and then die. After that, it would start great and then die when put into gear. I tried to mess with the throttle jets because it sounded like the mixture may have gone awry, but did not help. The boat ran great before this, but will only start and idle now. Duck season is coming up and I am in desparate need of my boat back.

You mean the trottle at the helm? Might have broken the cable inside.........??? Check to see if carbs are opening and closing fully when you work the throttle.

there is a safety switch inside the trottle box itself that could have broken loose , you might open it up and take a look, just a thought

Certainly sounds like your harness is shorting out when you put it in gear. It's a pain to take apart, but I'll bet you find some frayed/pinched wires in there.

Pat, by chance, would this make the battery die when the boat is not being used? I noticed that the battery hooked to the engine is dead and I cannot recharge it. If it is the harness, tell me where to start. My mechanic knows that I'm good at taking things apart, but he likes me bringing it to him to put it back together.

Yep, sure will.
Just take your control box off, and remove the cover screws, there's a bunch of em, and see where it all goes. I'll bet you find some pinched/frayed wires in there.

Thanks Pat, I'll check it out Monday. My buddies went to Rockport and called me a little while ago and said that the last few nights they have been limiting on reds and trout. I'm gone in an hour.
