The old trolling motor base is attached to the boat with screws. But the screws have nuts on the other end.The nuts keep turning when trying to unscrew the screws.Any ideas on how to get this thing off? I cant reach the nuts to hold them. Plus the connection is different where it plugs in..The one on the boat has 2 wires that go the plug in.The new one has 4.

You should be able to get to the nuts, somebody put them on. Usually if you have a storage compartment nearby, the liner can be lifted out and that will give you access to the underside of the deck.

If worse comes to worse, you can alwys drill the bolt heads off to get the base up.

Most of the time the nuts will be 7/16.If you have problems getting your arm in there to reach them even after you've located the nearest hatch, have a kid give you a hand.Smaller arms can reach in there further.

Does your boat have a name plate up front close to the mount . Take it off and there should be a hole to get to the nuts. It might be you have to remove the plate that you hookup the trolling motor plug. Like someone else said someone put them on.---Smitty

I think they put them on at the factory before installing the floor ..I don't recall seeing a name plate. It is a 79 king fisher so the technology(common sense) back then isnt what it is today.

I wouldn't think they did it at the factory. Most of the time when you see a boat come rigged out from the factory, someone has mounted all the extra equipment.---Smitty
