maddog duck, the one I had was about 8 years ago or so and it had the downward hook like the stingray. I used it once and lost speed and could not get the bow up cause my motor was too low in the water. It was a 1976 model boat and most of the boats back then were rigged with the motor all the way down on the transom. I bought a 2 piece Attwood that angles up and it was great for a "V" hull.

I took off the fin and it really helped. The boat gets right up on plane. I still had trouble trimming it out though so I need to have the trim mechanism looked at, but everything was generally better without the fin.

Duck Man,
Glad things are better. Once you get the trim problem fixed, you should test out your boat with and without the hydrofoil. Be sure to take note of both handling and top speed. Different boats react differently to different kinds of hydrofoils.

maddog,

I will try that. I did notice that the boat was a little more fishy at very low speeds so the fin did help for that.

The one you posted in that link looks just like mine, 2-pieces and flat.

maddog duck, if I remember right it looked like that (2 piece anyway) and like you said the stingray has a big downward trailing edge but it was 1 piece I believe. The one I liked the best was this one, http://groups.msn.com/TFFShareAlbum/erwinsfishinalbum.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=2725
