Can anyone tell me the difference between the 150, 175, and 200 HP Mercury motors during the 1984 to 1989 years? They seem to be the same displacement, so what makes the horsepower difference?

Carb bore, exhaust tuners, port timing, reed blocks are your main difference. And yes, you can make the 150 almost a 200 with those changes.

Thanks Pat. I was suspicious of that. I have a locked up 200 and was thinking of swapping the block assembly from a 150 on to it and was wandering what I would have when finished.
