Fished Falcon for first time ever last weekend, with my Dad who winters down there. Wasn't lights out, but it wasn't by any means terrible.

Sat - we caught 23 bass, best 5 over 34lbs, Dad got a 9lbr on a jig, other fish came on Brush Hogs & Hyper Freak, Water temp 63

Sun - tougher day with water dropping 3 degrees over night, we caught 13 fish, more small fish, but my Dad got a 7-10 & a 10-7 on Carolina Rig Mag Fluke, water temp 60

Most fish came off Main Channel ledge with wood/rock mix dropping off to 20-25ft and 5-6 ft on top of ledge

I'll be back again, here are some pictures - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150419561876516.355107.99917521515&type=1

I'd say that was a pretty great day compared to lakes around here this time of year. Nice cheers

In response to being checked: I have virtually lived on Falcon since the end of Oct. Presence of Border Patrol, Coast Guard (yes, CC because it is deamed navigational waters) and Game Wardens is a all time high. You should be prepared to be checked on a daily basis. Sometimes more than once a day.

Sorry Rich, did not mean to hijack your post. Nice fish, glad you were able to share the time with your father. Good pics!

We did not launch at public ramp, my dad has some passes at other places, so we did not get checked at ramps or on lakes.

We stayed pretty close to Zapata

Here is a write up I did on my blog with a few more details - http://bassinblog.richlindgren.com/2011/12/22/quick-falcon-lake-trip.aspx

We all stumble and make mistakes. When you stumble, do you want your brother to help knock you down or to help set you back on your feet?

When they check you do they physically get in your boat? I'm not a big fan of people crawling around in my rig! I'm very picky about stuff like that. I probably fished it more than thirty days last year. Never checked once. I talked to them at the ramp, but never checked.

Hey Richlindgren I was in the silver and red triton fishing the same area. That was our first trip to falcon as well. We did some adventuring Sunday and found some huge fish. I never thought falcon would live up to the hype but it surpassed it.

Carrot Stix

In zebcos defense I have seen several over 10's caught on Tyler in the last 2 weeks .... As far as 31lb. Sack , I say not likely unless mr doty and Pickett decide to join us!!!!!

Yes, they actually boarded out on the water. Made us open all hatches. The Coast Guard checks your life preservers for their approval seal.

One more good reason to fish in Mexico!
