Occasionally out of the hole the boat can't get out of it's own way. It's like the fuel mixture is out of wack. The motor has a sound of it's own when this happens. I can leave the throttle to the max and eventually it will kick in and run normal. It's like I can hear a single click in the engine. Once the click occurs the boat surges to normal rpm. It doesn't do it every time. In my limited experience could this be a power pack. Ideas!
thanks

I would like more info on this dude, next time out when this happens; hit the choke and hold it in and see if this helps any or makes things worse... This makes things better we will know its fuel related problem. Worse, its ignition, you with me???
I have had my last round of fights with AOL and will be out of pocket for a while or at least wed. of next week when DSL will be installed with another company. So I will be hard pressed to be found for a few days. Hopefully though, answers you give us on the stuff above will help some of us to maybe figure out where to look for the problem.
You might even remove the airbox off the front of the motor, put the motor in WOT check to make sure all throttle plates are at WOT. Then reach in the front of each carb and see if you can very easy force anyone of the throttle plates closed with a long screwdriver. If they all seem to be good and tight to the shaft that links these together they are more than likely fine. Just hard to tell what is going on yet from what you said about this. Sorry I couldn't help more at this time.

Catfishsalsa and Rowdy thanks for the reply.
I'm not a mechanic but pretty mechanically inclined. The problem has existed for a long time. It is always when I first start the engine. It's that I have just gotten accustomed to when it starts acting crazy I leave the throttle wide open and will most always regain power and run normal in 5 - 10 seconds. But boy when it acts crazy it's like it has no power and perhaps starving for gas. The starving for gas part is a little strange. Is it possible the fuel pump is loosing prime some how, or perhaps the vent is clogged. I have replaced the prime bulb and made sure all the fittings are tight back to the tank. I have also replaced the fuel pump when I got rid of the VRO. The one thing I'm a little confused about is the anti siphon valve located on top of the tank. When I began trobleshooting the problem I noticed there was no valve it was just a straight fitting. I put a new valve in but this did nothing, probably cause this is when the fuel pump needed replaced. I have not tried your suggestion of choking the engine when it acts up. Weather cooperating I'll try this the weekend.
thanks again - any help is appreciated

OK DUDE I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IF CHOKING THE MOTOR WHEN IT DOES THIS HELPS OR HAS NO DIFFERENCE OR IF IT JUST OVER LOADS THE MOTOR AND BOGGS HER DOWN. THIS WILL HELP ALL OF US UNDERSTAND MORE OF WHAT SHE NEEDS.
WEATHER PERMITTING LOL, NOW I DO UNDERSTAND THAT. ITS RAINING AND COLD HERE THIS MORNING LOL...

Is this a GT or straight 150 sounds like to me you have a ignition problem. If takes off like you flip a switch then it is a power pack cause very seldom do you see timer base or stator fail OPTI

Just a guess. Timing arm sticking. Spring gummed up or broke. Several things can cause motor to hesitate,( power pack, ignition coil, ignition wire, timming (trigger sticking), low compression, carbon buildup, reeds, power valves, wrong or bad spark plugs, too much or bad fuel, air leak, Wire connection to power packs, thermostats stuck open or taken out, on and on each has differant symptoms all you have eliminated is Have torn motors down only to find stuck rings caused by carbon buildup. Our fuel a`nt what it youstabe. Have been telling customers for years to add carbon cleaner to fuel. Yamys like ring free. Lot less problem with synthetic oils but not cheap. Some real good oil additives out their. I know some high performance guys that are using Pennsoil semi-synthetic blend turning 8500 rpms with no problems. Price is right too when you are burning a lot of fuel. good luck

UPDATE
Got back on the water this weekend in hopes of trying Rowdy's suggestion but as usual it did hesitate once. The motor is an Evinrude 150 XP. I want to eliminate any sticking or moving parts that could be gummed up. Gary Purdy's suggetion is something I have considered. I have a manual on the motor so will take a look at GP suggestion over the long weekend. Regarding ring-free, I have been using the Yamy additive since I had the motor overhauled nearly 4 years ago. Then the problem was stuck rings, two of them. Sure hope it's not the same issue again. Seems like if it were a fuel issue it would happen all the time. Since it is very intermitant and I can actually hear a click when the rough, no power stops I want to beleive it's ignition (electrical).
Again, thanks to all I want to eliminate as much as I can prior to putting in the shop.
