I have a Shimano Core 100MG. I need to put line on it for the trip to falcon. What would be the best florocarbon line weight for fishing the trees and rocks? Also what brand line is proven best for that type of fishing?

Thanks for any help. I tried to search this site, but maybe did not use the right word combination to fine earlier posts...

I fish 20lb flouro at Falcon and do not have any problems. tried 25lb but it feels to stiff for my liking.

Every time down there I've used XPS floro 20lb with no problems at all. I crank with 14lb XPS floro, too.

I forgot about cranking.... Between 14 and 20? Would 17 be good for both jigs and cranking??? 25 is like rope to me...

A good 20 lb line line P-line,Seaguar abraz X will be ok. I have never had any problems with either line there. Pull some big ones right out of the bushes.Last year caught a 12 ponder on 20 lb in a bush.Good Luck !

I've been using 25# Seaguar InvizX with no problems. Just keep some KVD Line and Lure on it. But I still use 65# braid a lot, for pitching in the thickest stuff, especially if it's murky.

I am going down in Jan with Braid and 20lb fluoro. Probably will go 16 fluoro on my DD22.

I have rods with three line types: 20 lb InvizX for all purpose, 15lb InvizX for cranking, and 50 lb braid for flipping the thick stuff.

Myself and Jason Hoffman both use 25lb Invizx and we catch some TOADS out of the trees down there. It's smooth, very abrasion resistant and little stretch!

I started changing over to mostly 25 lb Seaguar this year until I learned a Falcon lesson. I was fishing a patch of big willow trees and in about 10 minutes I lost 2 giant fish using 25 fluorocarbon. The first bite I had my drag pretty tight and the fish hit and started a run almost pulling the rod out of my hand--within a second it snapped off. I backed off of the drag after that a little. A few casts later another monster bite and this time it ran pulling the drag and wrapped around a willow trunk and snapped. Maybe it was just bad luck, but after that I use braid or fluoro, depending on the cover.

Here is my tip for the day.

If you are targeting a monster fish. Which is probably why you are going down there. You need to man up and go with 25lb Floro or 65lb braid. It took me a few sharks that busted me off and owned me to admit defeat and increase line strength from 20 to 25.

Thanks for the advise. 65 braid may be the way for me to go.
