Murski, 72, dies in Texas auto crash

[ 0 ] December 19, 2011 | PAA

The fishing industry lost a legend and great friend Monday when Ray Murski died after sustaining injuries in a two-car crash on a Texas highway.

Murski, 72, of Meridian, Texas, died at an Austin-area hospital after being transported following the crash. Eyewitnesses said his SUV crossed over the center line in the two-lane highway and collided head-on with another vehicle.

Murski was owner of the Bliss-Murski rep group of Dallas, which handles numerous accounts in the fishing and hunting industry. He was among the first competitors on the Bassmaster Tournament Trail after it was founded in the late 1960s and also owned Strike King Lure Company.

More notably, Murski was a friend among many in the industry. His business acumen was keen and honed from years of hard work, but he did numerous things to help people or companies that others rarely if ever knew about. Full of gusto and cheer, and never failing to have a good rib-splitting story to tell, Murski also worked behind the scenes in numerous instances to help others.

Ray's tireless efforts to grow both hunting and fishing are legandary behind the scenes. He was a well known for getting kids involved, conservation efforts, creating oppotunties for others as well as being a great mentor to many.

He will be missed.

Definitely one of the legends and a true steward of hunting and fishing. I have spent quite a bit of time on his ranch with Ray and he was always cheerful and met you with one of his favorite sayings "Hey Buck".

Ray spent a lot of time promoting hunting and fishing rights in general but especially for kids. He was always involved when we did kids hunting and fishing events. He also was very pro law enforcement and was one of the sponsors for my K9 unit.

Ray will be missed by many and the world truly was a better place with him.

RIP "Buck"
