My motor is a 115hp Merc. It takes about 10-15 seconds for water to start pumping out after the engine starts. Is this too long? I don't like to get underway until the water starts spewing.

Second question: Is it bad on the motor to shift immediately from forward to reverse or from reverse to forward? Like when you're navigating through a tight spot. Thanks.

Corky, I would say thats to long for water to show up.........might just be a small piece of dirt in the "pee" hole. Get a paperclip and stick up up the hole..............or when was the last time you changed the water pump? Could be a weak impeller.

You should only shift forward to reverse when the engine is idling........at less than 800 RPM. or so.

A bad day fishin' is still better than work!
That's BOATMAN1 with the blue hat on! BUT the BOAT is fake!

Thanks Boatman. I'm a little bashful but I think I can check the "pee" hole. Thanks also for the reply on shifting forward to reverse.
