How is the fishing in general on this lake? I am from the midwest, Wisconin to be specific, and I am relocating to the saginaw area. The lakes I typically fish are loaded with panfish and a variety of game fish, not common in Texas (northern pike, Musky and walleyes, is it a live bait lake or will artificially sufice?

Welcome to Texas mjtb2006! Eagle Mtn. has largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass in it as well as white (sand) bass and hybrid striped bass. It also has crappie and bream as well as several species of catfish. You can use either live bait or artificial lures for success on EML. Since the lake has a lot of boat docks/houses, that is a fairly good pattern year round. While some on the TFF don't like EML, it is not that bad of a lake. Good Luck!

If you are running in a boat be careful of shallow places because the lake is so low.

So as far as table fair goes, in the north here, walleye and crappie prevail. Of the southern speicies in EML, are the panfish and crappie good table fare? I catch and release 95% of what i catch, but I also like a good fish fry once in a while. Last question: Does hotmaps, navionics, or any of the other lake mapping providers offer a chips for lowrance that has lakes maps for all of Texas? Or at least the Fort Worth area?

The best tasting fish usually caught in the Southwest are Bluegills, then Crappie, then Channel Cats. We only have one lake near Fort Worth with Walleye, and it is a small reservoir. Navionics has the maps. They are promoted every week on Southwest Outdoors Report which is a great TV show showcasing local lakes. You can watch all the back episodes.

Eagle Mountain is not a bad lake at all. Crappie are excellent table fare, as are catfish, and white bass. (locally known as sand bass) White bass often school on the lake and are a lot of fun while they are feeding. It is easy to catch 50-100 sandies in an hour. Bass fishing can be tough until you really learn the lake, but the population is good. Docks and marinas are a good place to fishfor bass, as well as deep water humps. Catfish are also abundant. the North end of the lake is pretty shallow, I would be careful anywhere North of Indian Creek. Also the large bay south of the island (Walnut Creek) is very shallow and should be navigated with great care. The ramp at Lakeview and West Bay are both good, as well as Harbor One.

What's the lake near Fort Worth with walleye? Wheeler Branch Reservoir at Glen Rose (52 miles from Fort Worth) has been heavily stocked with Walleye and some catches have been reported lately. Wheeler Branch belongs to the Sumervell County Water District , and they treat it like their own private pond with very high fees for non-residents and many boating regulations.

It really isn't that expensive to fish there...the money you spend to launch there is cheaper than the gas you would use at any other lake. I personally love Wheeler and that's where I have caught 4 Walleye since it opened. Tons of great healthy football looking Largemouth and a great population of smallmouth! also a bunch of cats if some of you like catfishin'
