Gonna be heading to Academy tomorrow to check out the pescador 12, if I decide to i'll go ahead and get it. Im very excited, I've been patiently waiting for months to get a yak, and now I'm pretty much ready to go get it. I just have to figure out which paddle and vest I'm going to get, kinda lost on that one. I'm 6ft so I guess i'll want to get a longer one, but I'm not too sure.

I waited about 3 months to get mine. Made sure it was the perfect one. I have not regretted it one sec. I even had to drive 100 miles. Enjoy! smile

I considered the pescador 12 after hearing some good things about it. However being a fat boy, I was afraid I needed more weight capacity, than the pescador 12.

I also liked the Mirage drive so I could keep my hands free to fish. So I went with the 12 ft Hobie Outback. I am happy with my choice for me. Too bad Academy doesn't do demo rides like the real yak shops.

Still learning to kayak fish with my Hobie Outback.

Love my Pescador 12. It has provided hours of time on the water I would not have had otherwise.

Well I brought home my pescador 12 today, along with a nice PFD that i got on clearance, a paddle, and a malone seawing kayak carrier, that was also on clearance. I'm super excited, but won't be able to take it out for a few more days.

BTW academy has the kayak carrier for $100 off, got mine for $49.99

As for paddles that's up to you, but don't skimp on a jacket, get something g that fits and thats made for kayak fishing, itheres a huge difference between ski jackes and kayak jackets. Took owning one to know the difference, and why the make one for kayaks, your ride will most likely be much better with a kayak jacket.

Congrats! I'm sure you'll love the Pescador as much as the rest of us do. I am also 6ft. I was using a borrowed 230cm paddle, but I liked my cousin's 240 better. I recently bought one of the cheap Marine Raider 240cm paddles from Academy, but I have only used it briefly. So far, it seems pretty dang good for the money. Now I just need to get out and really put it to the test!

I let a buddy borrow my spare kayak when we did the devils river and I had a marine raider paddle for it. One of the paddle blades broke after about 3 hours on the river. We taped it up and the other side broke the next day. Its an OK paddle for lakes but any type of pushing or pulling on rocks is going to snap the blades easily.

I'm reAlly thinkin that I just need to get a longer paddle, I bought a 220cm paddle and bang it and my hands on the side of the kayak fairly often.
