I know very little about boats, but I have just bought my first one.
My question is what are the advantages and disadvantages of jackplates?
I do not have one on my boat and would one benefit me at all.
I have a 1998 Ranger R97 Sport (Fish and Ski). It is 19'2" and has a 200 Mercury EFI.
Im not into holeshots and running faster than anyone else, but are there any other reasons to have a jackplate?
Thanks to all that reply.

that should help explain.

if you don't care about
1)holeshot
2)midrange
3)topend
4)gas mileage
5)boat handling

there is no other reason to have one.

And...
Anything BUT a rite hite, don't get suckered into a cheap deal on something that can literally hurt you.

Rapid jack is best, then everything else falls between the two.

How much should I expect to put a 12" jack plate on a 22' center console with 225 Suzuki.
