Politicians and EPA. Average american is subsidizing this, suffering lost fule mileage and costly repairs to vechicals, 2 stroke engines and more.

Just for the record, we here in IOWA can still buy ethonal free gas, costs ten cents a gallon more than 10% ethonal.
It must be a Texas problem

Oh, you can still buy ethanol free gas in Texas, in fact there are 98 ethanol free stations in Texas and only 42 in Iowa. The issue is tax credits for selling ethanol. The profit margin is higher for ethanol gas than it is for ethanol free gas.

It all depends on the county you are in. If you are adjoining to Dallas or Tarrant counties. I don't think they can sell it.

Here is a site that shows you where to get 100% gas. Not sure how accurate it is. http://pure-gas.org/

There is a good read in the new Bassmaster mag about outboards and ethanol. It's primarily aimed at E-15, but still a good read.

Areas above a certain ozone level had to put a oxygenate in their gasoline for the higher temperature months of the year about April to October if I reall properly. DFW is one of those ozone emmission non-attainment zones, most major cities are in similar zones. Rural areas will not have the same requirements. The original EPA condoned oygenate was MTBE, and gasoline stations with single wall tanks leaked MTBE into nearby water supplies. The MTBE could be tasted and smelled in that water.
EPA changed it's mind so now their approved oxygenate is Ethanol. The original thought was also that we burn the fuel we could make within the US. In classic government unexpected consequences we increased the cost(value) of corn and all things (food and elsewise) corn fed into. Some contend it takes more energy to make fuel ethanol than it's worth to the burner.
less fuel economy when its in the mix, but without it the gasoline engine makes more ozone and NOX. This has been inplace since about 1994 but despite this if you top the Clark Road entrance to Rte 408 from the south side in the morning light you can see the brown NOX haze above the Trinity valley. Some has to be from the DFW and LUV jet take offs.

Some has to be from the DFW and LUV jet take offs. Think we can talk the airlines into using ethanol in their JP5?

For what it's worth.....
There may not have been a party in Times Square to celebrate, but two of the most wasteful subsidies ever to clutter the Internal Revenue Code went out with the old year.
Congress declined to renew either the 45-cent-per-gallon tax credit for corn-based ethanol or the 54-cent-per-gallon tariff on imported ethanol, so both expired Dec. 31.
Taxpayers will no longer have shell out roughly $6 billion per year for a program that badly distorted the global grain market, artificially raised the cost of agricultural land and did almost nothing to curb greenhouse gas emissions.
A federal law requiring the use of 36 billion gallons of ethanol for fuel by 2022 still props up the industry, but the tax credit's expiration is a victory for common sense just the same.
Meanwhile, a lesser-known but equally dubious energy tax break also expired when the year ended Saturday: the credit that gave electric-car owners up to $1,000 to defray the cost of installing a 220-volt charging device in their homes or up to $30,000 to install one in a commercial location.

[quote=DaveRTX]Here is a site that shows you where to get 100% gas. Not sure how accurate it is. http://pure-gas.org/ [/quot Thanks it will be very useful when we go on a long road trip this summer. My car is an srt4 caliber [the hot rod 4 cylinder model with the stage one computer in it} This car truly hates ethanol. Gas mileage noticeably drops and it gets very grumpy around town. My manual says do not use E85 or serious damage to the motor could result. By the way just like whiskey has water dissolved in it, there is always some water in our gasoline, if you put ethanol in you create a problem. When the car, truck, or boat sits in storage for some time, the ethanol will attract the water in the fuel the mixture will sink to the bottom of the tank. Eventually a puddle will form there and two things can potentially occur. One, when you restart the computer senses a change in the gas mixture and tries to compensate, however this does not work very well. Then, the longer it sits, the more likely you will get bacterial fermentation and a production of organic acids in the ethanol/water mixture. Well, guess what that will do to the parts over time. Well, anyway, thanks for the list.
