Are my fly fishing adventures (freshwater) over?! I am not a huge fan of Saltwater Fly Fishing, and I don't want to be eaten by a gator trying to fish freshwater. I'm sort of a trout bum, so I'm gonna miss the Guadalupe and LMF. And all the dang smallies in the Guad!(I mostly fish rivers and streams BTW) Anyone have any info that will give me a little hope? I am going to move to the Miami/Ft.Lauterdale area

Get thee to a web browser! Also, canals. I've heard that the various canals are some sweet action. Saw a guide once, the Land Captain. Took his customers around in a Honda Accord to fish for tarpon, snook, bass, peacocks, Oscars etc. etc.

I think you're about to get throwed into the briar patch my friend... smile

If you're gonna be in Miami you have miles and miles of canals full of all sorts of freshwater stuff, including some really exotic species like Peacock bass and Oscars plus natives like bluegill, bass, and even some saltwater species.

Just look up something like "fly fishing Miami canals" on youtube and a bunch of cool video's will come up.

Good Article, Thanks Pondbass.
But this is concerning to say the least... "Wherever you go in south Florida be mindful that car break-ins are so common that some guides leave their windows open and their cars unlocked to prevent damage."
By the way guys can you fly fish from the beach/ any beaches? I don't have a boat.
And from what I can remember and have read, there is a serious mosquito problem in FL... Mosquitos seem to LOVE me eek
In San Antonio where I live now, I can honestly say There are hardly any.

monster peacocks, and the mangroves are incredible even if you aren't that into salt. My grandpa used to live on the canal a quick 15min skiff ride to the mangroves and it was some of the most fun fishing. Snook, snapper, baby tarpon

Contact Sandy Monet who owns Florida Keys Outfitters in Islamorada, half way down the Keys. Great fly shop, and they have a list of guides that can take you out for a day.

Get a kayak and have fun, I think I envy you. Get a kayak you can use in sea and fresh water.

I second that observation. They ate me up in Savannah one year. I think I still have scars on my legs from them.
