I was thinking of going below Ray Bob today. But when I call people to go they say I am crazy. I don't get to go during the summer because of work. So is it worth going........

YOU ARE CRAZY!!!

So are we. About 10 yakers went out of Eisenhower State park yesterday. Capt Paul & I had to barrow B_Rods MONSTER fish to take a picture at the end of the day. Thanks Tekkel thumb That's what the picture is all about in my signature. Might as well make the best on a tough day. At least we didn't pose with no white drum frkazoid

It CAN get too cold to fish in TEXAS IMO. But we aren't there yet. My experience has been that -degrees temps on Texas waters & fish tend to go into survival mode. Different up North i suppose. Those fish & fishing methods are different & so are the people hammer

They cut a holes in the ice & sip on the whiskey/coffee/hot chocolate. Beats sittin in the house "A"! We once tried bank fishing on Texoma. When we arrived that morning in the dark, my truck thermometer said -11 Fahrenheit. It was so cold & windy my throw net would freeze stiff after each throw. We then pulled out the seine which also froze stiff! Frustrated all we could do was laugh as we jumped right back in the truck & headed home.

If they were biting somewhere, we wouldn't know cause we couldn't catch any bait!

This week we found that the Striper bite was good but soft & fast! You had to be real quick or lucky if you wanna hookem.

Many got spit the hook before we could even set it.

We caught a few...

Guys, It's Big Cat season!!!
Just ask the cat guys. Be careful out there y'all thumb

Does it get to cold? I guess if it's sprinkling then yea that would be nasty. But as far as being to cold these guys didn't think so from yesterday. It was 29 degrees when we pulled away from the boat ramp.

Now this guy in the front might be crazy, But I don't think it has anything to do with the weather.

And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

I say go for it. I walked that area on Friday and didn't catch anything. Spoke with a guy that said there are two places where you have to portage.
It's warmer than yesterday when we hit Texoma.
And Zombie, I caught one.

Did that come from the Elm Fork?

When I went out to test my waders, I was doubting my sanity. It had to be right above freezing when I got to the lake. But the waders did the trick admirably, stayed warm and dry all day. Just use extra caution, don't want to take a bath if you can help it.

Fish ON!

A lot of times I've been out when it's below freezing. When your stuff starts freezing, you can dunk it underwater and it'll thaw it out for a few minutes. I have problems with duck calls freezing up.

I think if it's below 40 and the wind/rain means you're gonna get super wet, it's not worth it... But if it's calm no real worries IMO. Just don't push the envelope and have a plan of action rehearsed in your mind if you do end up in the drink. Freezing temps are fishable, but it's not the time to explore uncharted territory...

Yep came from the Elm Fork. The pic does not do it justice. It was thick from head to tail and the belly sagged way down. When they first opened the lake we used to catch fish like this all the time. But the river is fished a lot now and they do not let enough water through all the time.

Thanks Zombie.

When it gets too cold to fish from a kayak it is time to start ice fishing.
