Motor is a 2001 XR6. I recently noticed a small oily spot below the motor when it is in the garage or the storage unit. Color is greenish black. I didnt smell to see if it was burnt. I cant find any residual leaking near the screws. It has never done this before. Any ideas on what this is? Or what to do?

Could it be some motor oil that leaked from above and found it's way to the bottom of the motor? If I leave my motor trimmed up I will sometimes get some oil dripping out of the carb area and it runs down the motor.
Good luck, Greg

same as above , but may need a seal kit on the lower unit. take the cover off and check to see if any oil on upper unit. if it is coming out between the lower shaft and lower unit it may be the seals. my older 150 evinrude just had the same problem and OPTI from this forum fixed it with a seal kit. I would not run it until ya know for sure. Hope all goes well.
Dear Lord,I pray please help us all to stay a float. If you would Lord, send a big boat!

Think I have problem solved. Looks like the oil cap developed a crack in it last weekend. $48 later for new cap assembly and feel confident that everything is OK. Thanks for the help.
