Received my tach this morning and right out of the box the needle is stuck on 1500rpm. Is this normal? I would think with no input would be at 0 right out of the box. I don't want to install it if isn't any good.

Also I have a water pressure guage for my Yamaha 50 as well but just realized it only goes up to 30 psi. Just realized I don't know what to expect for pressure to start with. What should I expect for water pressure on my motor?

the tack will go to zero when power is applies to it. it stays where ever you turn off your motor the goes to 0. the water press is fine should not have any problem

My mechanic just installed a new water pressure guage in my boat (200 Mercury EFI) and said it should show 12-14 max.
I haven't ran it yet to check it.

Take it easy on me....Im new at this stuff!

Your water pressure will be nearly zero at idle, then probably somewhere around 15 at WFO. Might be a little higher or lower, you just don't want to be under 12 unless you've pulled the thermostats (like me) and it'll drop the pressure a good bit.

Thanks again guys, Tach works as advertised and yes it does go to 0 rpm when I apply power.

The H2O pressure is installed and I have the hose run to the motor but it's just tied off right now. Now I need to know where to hook it up to and I understand I'll need metric fittings. Where would I go to get these fittings, and where exactly does it hook up to?

You'll see the threaded caps where the pressure line goes into, or you can just put a "T" fitting into the outlet hose, it's all about the same. You just want to monitor you're active on pressure, try to catch it before the alarm goes off.

Thanks Pat, items 24 and 25 in the drawing below are the plug and gasket in the water jacket. Does Yamaha have a part number to replace this plug with a nipple for a gauge hook up?

Not shure if that plug hole goes through to water. All plugs for water connect that I have run across are pipe thread. Like Pat said T it into the pee hose.
