Made the 100 mile run to Lake O The Pines today to test the crappie and see if they have made thier way to the flats for the winter, and as usual LOP didn't let me down. I met up with good friend Chuck Rollins and he brought along Jason and Chris from the bigcrappie.com crew and we had a great day of fishing and fellowship. A little trash talkin, front ending and crappie catching. Water temp is 47, and clear. There was very little wind today, which made fishing nice. We ended our day with 50 nice crappie. The fish are healthy and fat as usual. Magical depth today was 19-21, but we caught fish as deep as 26 ft. Jigs of choice were bobby garland baby shad and slab bandits. Fishing is only going to get better from here...enjoy the pics!   Good Fishin John

I enjoyed it John, I'm glad we made the drive. Pines hasn't let me down yet and hopefully won't. I'm looking forward to running some guide trips there very soon. I'll talk to ya soon.

Never been there...Hope to fish LOP someday...Look like a good lake to learn. I guess that is very much like Folk in the winter fishing.
Does anyone know if you have to keep the first 25 at LOP like Folk during this time of year?
(instead of revising my mispells I'll just copy/paste...and revise the 2nd set, just case someone is on a rag)...hehehe

Yes you have to keep all crappie caught. Most all of them are normally keepers though.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

The no cull rule is in effect from December 1st until Febuary 28th on Lake o the Pines and Lake Fork. All crappie caught must be kept. I will say that for the most part at Pines, most all the fish are legal fish anyway. Today out of 50 that I cleaned we had 3 unders and they were about 9 inchers.
