I mostly throw stren mono line. But seems like everyone throws braids or flouro . Do you think regular old fishing line is still good for todays anglers?

Everything has it's purpose. I still throw Mono as well as Braid and Floro. I like Mono for things that require more stretch...mostly for things with treble hooks.

Most everything is Fluorocarbon. A few specific co-polymer or braid applications.

Sure, you can do just fine using mono. Fluorocarbon line really is great, its more sensitive and it sinks a little better. Im cheap and I dont mind using mono for most of my fishing, but there are certain applications I feel like I need to use fluorocarbon: 1. Cold weather. I hear the opposite but I cant manage mono for jig fishing in freezing weather, Invizx works better for me. 2. Trap and chatterbait fishing. I feel like the added sensitivity will help me feel the bait and know when its gunked up or not running right or when to pop it free. 3. Deep cranking because fluoro is thinner and lets the bait get deeper. Fishing as often as I do and changing line when I should... with my budget, fishing with fluoro exclusively just isn't an option. Braid is great for really heavy cover, if it doesnt mess with your confidence.

Mono is about all I throw. I will use braid for my carolina rigs, frogs, and heavy cover though. I HATE the stuff for anything else.
I have 0 use for flurocarbon. It's stiff, knots suck, and it is super expensive for very little benefit IMO.

Mono has its place in my boat. Give McCoys mono a try. That stuff is like silk. (not affiliated with them what so ever).

I only use mono (which is actually a copolymer)because it works well for where I fish and how I fish. I prefer P-line CX Premium because it is a copolymer with an outer coating of fluorocarbon, which makes it less visible and very slightly more sensitive with slightly less stretch. 12# for spinning and 15# for baitcasting. However, if you fish a lot of different places, there are times where you need braid for strength, or braid with a fluorocarbon leader for strength and low visibility, or just plain fluorocarbon for low visibility and less stretch. A lot of guys like braid with a fluorocarbon leader for spinning gear because it has low memory on the spool.
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

I still use 20lb big game on c-rigs. Braid or fluoro on everything else. I'd prefer to use braid on my c-rigs but rocks kept cutting the line.

well Mono could suit you for all applications but you would be shorting yourself if you didn't consider the other offerings...they all have a use...Mono is stretchy and more buoyant, great for topwater baits because it keeps the nose of the bait from digging below the surface, but there is not a bait on the market that mono couldn't fish...Stren is good and I still use it, but not as good as when it was made by Dupont - in my own opine - but it is still a great line...Floro has it's place too, just not straight on a spinning rod, it's too stiff and will cause all kinds of grief, your better off putting a mono or braid backing with just a few feet of floro, but 10 lb floro on your cranking stick will get that bait down farther than mono of the same diameter/test because it's less buoyant, and 14 to 25 lb test floro on a baitcaster for everything but topwater is worth the cost !!!...and braid is the best in the grass, heavy cover, stained water situations...to your question could you fish the rest of your day's with mono the answer is sure...

PL CXX and PL CX Premium are great lines. I use CXX for cranks, spoons, swimbaits, etc... I use CX Premium for jigs, shakey heads, plastics, etc....
