You can get a replacement key with your motor serial number at an authorized service department.

I have been thru this before and learned the hard way. DON'T replace the ignition unless it is defective. Get the serial number off the ignition and it should correspond to a two digit key number like 7b. I called Gunter marine and they got me two keys for $9.00 I believe. Their number is 817-626-5693. Their is only 50 or so different keys for all boats (so I am told). If you don't want to take apart the throttle control to get to the ignition, take it to Gunter and he will match a key to the ignition for the same price. TOO EASY!!

They are super easy to pick if all else fails. The locksmith could make a key off the pick set.

I had the same situation I needed a spare and there was a black cover over the head of the key
if you pry the cover apart there is a key # on the head of the key at least there was on my 1991 tracker key, they can then match # to find the right one for your boat.

Just take the engine model serial number, year, and make to an authorized dealer. They'll have the keys in stock. I needed a spare key for a 1986 Johnson 110 horse and the local Johnson dealer had a drawer full of 'em.

There is a number on the ignition switch, aswell, this number is also the key number. The only problem is that it's on the side of the switch, which is not exposed. You will have to remove the switch.
The easiest way is to bring your boat in to a authorized service center. They should have a master set of keys, and should take only a couple of minutes to find the right one !
