I think I would be telling my boss at work to kiss my bass as I would be out of there in a minute.

Depends on where I caught the fish....
In Texas I'd pay the fee and take the fish back to my hatchery to try and spawn her. "World Record Bass Offspring for Sale."
In Florida, I'd ship her back to Texas and do the same.
Not sure how I'd handle it if caught in the most likely place that will break the record, Lake Biwa in Central Honshu.
Only $250/each. I'd make a mint.
Also like the idea of "Thanking" all involved (insert brand names here). Just so happens there's a private lake in here in Texas that many believe the World Record is swimming in right now..... I feel sure the state record will be broken from this body of water next year after what I've personally seen. Back to the original question... if I caught her I'd cash in. Between Dallas and Houston....Something Castle???
"If it swims I'll catch it and if its wild I'll hunt it!!!"

It depends... if I thought I could get it in a good tank quick enough I would keep it. If NOT, I would have to release it. I love to fish, I would want someone else to have a chance too catch a fish of a lifetime.

What kind of money would the world record Bass bring in?
like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack

Keep it and sell her to the highest bidder……(Bass Pro, TPWD, etc.) Then publicly Thank: My pickup (insert your brand here) for towing the boat and getting me to the lake. My boat (insert brand) for getting me safe and dry to the magic spot on the lake. Levi’s for keeping me comfortable while I was fishing. Fruit of the Loom for the underwear and socks for their comfort. Nike for the great shoes that allowed me to stand on boat deck for long hours. Rod company for the great touch and feel. Line company for holding her…. Hook company for sticking the trophy…. Lure company for enticing her to strike…. Reel company for winching her in…. Dr. Pepper for quenching my thirst….. Frito Lay for the snacks….. Wrigley gum…. Igloo ice chest….Life vest company… Sunglasses company….Rain suit company…..Sunscreen company…. Etc. etc. etc…… In other words, MILK it baby for all it was worth!! After all, I do have mouths to feed and bills to pay…. But I wouldn’t kill the fish.
exactly my thoughts

sponsorships up the wazoo on what you caught it on, type of line, lure, reel, rod, scent, shoes pants and shirt you were wearing type of boat and tow vehicle, plus im sure bass pro would provide a hefty fee for keeping it alive till they got it. Wow, what a dream

To really cash in I think it would have to be caught in the US, unless someone caught it on one of those $400 swimbaits and started a craze.

I'd call Ranger, Skeeter, Legend, etc and see who could get a beautiful brand new boat to me as fast as possible so i could take official press pictures in it....of course the boat would then go home with me.

What a question! First of all its a good bet that the next world record will come out of Lake Mission Viejo in california. Probably this year or the next! Lakes go in cycles for big fish and fork is in what I call a (down cycle) right now. Mission viejo is just about at its peak cycle that lasts for 2 or 3 yrs then goes on the decline. This means a big window of opportunity to land that elusive world record! There is so many factors involved in timing, forage base, water quality ect.. that its too much to list. Here in Texas we perceive a giant to be over 13 pounds or so. Not the case out west! Your bass better weigh 16 or better to even get a mention in the local paper! I have a couple of friends who are world record hunters (Mike Long,Joe everett, Butch brown, Bill Siemantel) just to name a few. The consensus also believe that MV is the next lake to put out a world record. Now would someone please tell me more about this private lake in texas that has the potential to put out a world record. Thanks.... Ron C.

"World Record" can mean a lot of things, but for the purpose here it would be an "all body" record including any body of water in the world, public or private. The IGFA administers what I think would be recognized as the sanctioning authority for the World Record (Largemouth Bass).
However, it might be possible to catch a "World Record" fish and it not qualify as a State Record."
To qualify under the IGFA, the fish would have to weigh a minimum of two ounces more than the previous World Record. The "Heaviest Largemouth Bass" caught and well documented in the last 70 or 80 sumptin' years was caught in '09 in Lake Biwa, Japan.
I been there, to Lake Biwa, before it had bass in it, when I was a kid, it is a geologic wonder as lakes go, and among the oldest of lakes on the planet. Bass and bluegill having been introduced since then and many very large bass have been caught in the huge, ancient lake.
Now, I've no doubt a World Record can be grown in a semi-controlled environment with enough time, resources and money. A combination of genetics, habitat and chance.
Worth? Literally millions, see the "Thank (insert brand name) post, millions and millions.

I've caught the World record several times, each time it was just me, the fish and nature. Treasured moments I'll never forget, just me and the fish. That's just the way I roll. ...............
