I thought carrying concealed, if you have a permit, was legal in Texas State Parks? I just read the FLT blog and he is talking about not having guns in the park because LEO's will get ya. Can someone enlighten me?

Just renewed my CHL and yes, you can carry...there is actually a thread or two here on the subject also

http://www.texaschl.us/faq.htm#stateparks

Q; Can I carry my handgun in Texas State Parks and National Parks in Texas?

According to correspondence recieved from Park Information Texas Parks and Wildlife,Customer Service Center, A person can carry a loaded concealed handgun in Texas State Parks with a current and valid CHL license at anytime.

Crazy Cuban, seeing as many of us bass fish lakes that have state parks, everything.

It is not illegal to carry concelaed on your person in a Texas State Park if you have a CHL. Nor is it illegal to have a loaded handgun concealed in your vehicle w/o a CHL or to have a loaded rifle or shotgun in plain view.

I think what James was saying is "if you do carry, be prepared to be questioned."

Remember, it's a border lake and many guns get smuggled into Mexico, so I'm sure LEO's are on the look out for weapons.

Alwims, if you really want to know what James meant, pick up the phone and call him.

Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

He didn't say anything about CHL in that post. It sounded to me like "if you have a truck full of guns, you might want to reconsider"

I'm going up Friday so I plan to ask him in person. I'm not worried, but his blog just kind of caught me off guard. I have since researched Texas CHL Laws and I'm OK. I have carried in 19 states west of the Mississippi and thought I had done a good job researching all states laws. Turns out I did.

As for what this has to do with fishing. First, I read about guns in a "Fishing Blog", Second, it happened on a ramp that I launch out of a lot, "to go fishing". Third, CHL and fishing go hand in hand with more people than you might think.

I realize, James didn't say anything about CCW, but he did indicate that if you had a gun you might be detained.

I certainly didn't mean to stir up a hornets nest, but with all the [censored] going on at the border, I like to keep abreast of goings on, especially when I'm fishing a border lake and you guys, here on TFF, are usually a better source than even TX DPS.
