I have been noticing time after time the criticizm that weight plays a trememdous part in picking out rod and reels based on the opinions of my fellow anglers here on the forum. Were really only talking about a few ounces here...Personally, I have gorilla arms and it makes me no difference in the weight unless your fishing with a tree branch for a rod.
comments please.

Rod weight mainly goes towards how sensitive it is. A broomstick isn't going to be as sensitive than a rod with a strong with small blank.

for a skinny arm like me, weight plays into it for reels more than rods. I struggle throwing a calcutta 400 all day but I can throw a Winch with no issues. lots of joint fatigue in the wrist and top of the hand. just my opinion but when you fish 8-12 hours at a time, it makes a difference for a skinny arm.

I guess the only limitations would be that kind of factor. I had a chunk of meat cut out of my left forearm(something in Iraq bit me), and it left a hole about the size of a quarter and about 3/8 to an 1/2 inch deep. I went to the coast two days later and ended up ripping all the stitches fishing. On the third time to the doc, he sewed it on the inside and then on the outside. It then would withstand the smelly Pirate hook sets from that point on!

The Lighter a Blank is the less Vibration it takes to move it.

I think it does. Making hundreds or thousands of casts a month really can make my arm and shoulder worn out. I go out 5-6 times a week and so i think weight in a rod makes a big difference! For someone who doesnt go out much i dont think it really matters. However, one big thing is weight also determines how sensitive it is. That has a big impact for sure! I dont know thats just MPO.

i think balance is more crucial than the wieght, since most the higher end rods are pretty close in ounces to each other. a lighter rod that isnt balance correctly will feel much heavier in the hand.

Thats pretty much what I was thinking. I Hold some of these light weight rods and they feel terrible, but everyone is endorsing them. Good Post...

In that sense a better balanced rig may put less strain on joints since it requires less force to get it moving. Basically the but end provides some counterbalance. I'm no engineer, but in my real world experience I have seen it work this way. Personally, I consider balance before weight, and an ounce or two is only relevant if both rods being considered have similar balance.

Oh yeah, don't forget to put the reel on it. Some set ups were made for each-other.

It was a like a grass hopper with a bumble bee stinger and wood beetle head, never thought twice about it until it wouldnt heel by itself. over time it formed a cyst. It was ugly on my arm so had it removed.
