I will be upgrading to 36 volt motor and I have two Optima blue tops that are 2 years old. Is it ok to just add one new battery?

Only having a 24 volt system for a short time myself I can't speak from boating experience to tell you about having one battery newer than the other one.

But I have had several golf carts over the past twenty years. I have always had thirty-six volt carts with six 6 volt batteries. And both trolling motors and golf carts use deep-cycle batteries.

It seems that when having one battery die prematurely and having to replace it that the new battery doesn't last as long as it would have being as new as all the rest.

But I guess in your case that is better than buying all three new ones now.
