I fished out of a friends 17 with a 90 hp mercury.

Stable fishing platform, well laid out, handles rough water well if the operator knows what they are doing.

I've only rode in a couple, wouldn't buy one myself, wet rough ride even on fairly calm water. Most was probably the driver, but I wouldn't spend the money to find out for myself.

NOTHING beats the ride of a Champion!!! Smoothest ride & fastest hull I ever set my butt in!!!

Keep your powder dry & don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes!!

Trust me, if I had the money I would be looking at a Champ, Ranger, Skeeter, Triton, etc., however funds are limited and I want to spend my money were it counts motor and length, just trying to get an idea of what I'm getting, not get a that boat is better than that boat debate.
Thanks
Adam

I have a 1990 385 Javelin with a 150 Rude. XP. it's 17'9". It's not the driest ride in rough water but it's not bad. I'd say most of it is in the driver because I'm a beginner and i'll get a little wet in rough water but my out-law father does real well with it. I would buy it again if I didn't have the money to go with a big brand. Only real dislikes are; smaller livewells, when decelerating from high speed you have to slow down and then out run your wave or you'll soak the back deck, and it takes a little more time to get on plane than i think it should (which is probably the prop that's on it... 26 i think). Hope this info helps.

I have know 2 people that had Javalins they both loved them.

That guy saying triton those 2 boats have alot of simularities.

But if you want the best you better see a SKEETER dealer.

I have a 19' javelin and It has a great ride, and is very fast. My father has owned 2 and I can tell you they are an excellent boat. If it fits your needs check it out !!

Country,
My advice is to ride in several different boats and make your choice. If money is a big issue (as it is for most of us) consider buying and older well taken care of boat. Most of us are fairly brand loyal, so we all have our opinions. Personally, I have had 2 Skeeters and 2 Rangers, I've ridden in Bass Cats, Champions and Chargers along with a whole bunch of others and when my 87 Ranger Bass Master Classic (bought new) burned up in a boat shed fire last year, I looked and looked and found a newer (92) Ranger 372 V that had been well taken care of. I went all the way to Denver to look at it, bought it, and brought it to it's new home in Houston, and I'm really happy with it. For me, Ranger is the only option, but I know a whole lot of other guys that are just as loyal to other brands. The one thing I will say, is have you ever heard anyone say " It rides just as good as a Javelin"?

"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the government take care of him had better take a look at the American Indian".

Coming from a guy who wanted a well-kept, used first bass boat, I found a 2000 17' Javelin Venom w/ a Johnson 90 for around $8000. It's in great shape, very clean and I couldn't be happier. Yes, I may like a Ranger, Skeeter, etc. someday, but find me one 4 or 5 years old for 8 grand. Ain't gonna happen.

Take a ride in the Javelin, shop around some more, see what else is out there, then make a decision.

Good luck.

Mike
