The man at the gate said he heard reports that they were catching sandbass all over the lake. We ran into a biologist who said the birds were the key and they were gone. Guess what. There were a few birds but he was right. We finally saw a few and some surface action in a small cove but only a few small shad indications and only one fish each. Went from Isle de Bois to Jordan Park to Cates to the Dam and no luck. Where do they go?

A small line between Indian Creek and Wolf, an area some call "Hay Wire"? The fish r there when it is this cold there is a flooded pond that holds big #'s of fish hard to find it is right in between the two points.

fish a 1oz. slab when you find a spot showing fish. put it on the bottom with the weather getting colder and the water getting colder dont move your slab as fast. slow movements and even deadsticking should work. fish didnt leave just changed habits of feeding differently. hope it helps good luck. www.genestacklesupply.com

Just north of wolf island or just south of wolf island are both good, sometimes when the water is real cold sweeping a slab and just dragging it on the bottom is good.I look for contour changes when the birds are not around, such as a hill from 30 foot deep up to a 20 foot deep flat,or humps in decent water depths.Vary your lure action until you find what they are liking at the moment, sometimes they change up how they like it as the day progresses.
