I know everyone is super in love with Falcon but can you catch numbers and size consistently on Amistad? Trying to have a backup plan if some of the family decides Falcon is too risky. I've never fished Amistad and only know one person who has. Any thoughts on likelihood of catching good fish over a three or four day period? Thanks

YES YES and YES! The bite is starting to turn on after the October lull (for me at least)

I'd like to know how many boats a day on average Amistad see's.

Not many this time of year. Pick a big creek and you will probably have it to yourself all day.

I have fished Amistad 3 times a week since I moved here in July and have yet to have been close enough to another boat to tell what brand it is. On many afternoons I never SEE a boat after I leave the parking lot. It's pretty nice. Only fished Fork once as a kid and I can't believe the stories I hear about how crowded it is.

paynefish,

Amistad fishes very good during the winter months and it sets up nicely if you like to fish jerk baits, deep cranks, big jigs, or a carolina rig. thumb

All those sound good. We are looking at a late Feb trip. We will have at least two boats, maybe three. Don't know when the spawn happens and really don't want to zero if we drive all that way. Seems like a really big lake that can humble you quick.

Jeez, that really blows -- you may get forced to fish Amistad! Man, are we spoiled or what?

Amistad is awesome. Just about any technique has its place on that lake.

Amistad does get cooler than Falcon and the fish get pretty lock jawed when the water gets into the low 50s. Water temps don't get too much below 60 at Falcon, and when they do, it seems that a warm snap happens within a week or 2 that gets it above 60 again.

You'll likely see a lot of bedding fish upriver on Amistad at the end of Feb.

If by humble you quick, you mean get dicey weather, yes. But there are plenty of good coves to duck into if the main lake is too crazy to fish. And I can promise you won't zero. The nice thing about Amistad is that she has so many different types of fishing available. You can fish shallow, deep, really deep, brush, points, rock piles, docks, islands, and even head up the Pecos if you want river fishing.

Two years ago we had tournament third week in FEB man we hit the fish it took 60lb to be in top three. I can't be there this year but Sun Country will be on lake about the same time again. This no joke we had days start in 30s end in high 80s. Only thing we had a day of 50mpr wind on Amistad it's a nightmare. Can't count the number of beds we found mostly male but found females near by just deeper. Good luck to me Amistad great lake to fish in Feb would be there again if not for neck surgery.

thanks for all the ideas. a new lake that big is a challenge but it sounds like we should be fine. I'll start looking at accommodations.

Amistad is my favorite lake in Texas. Scenery, fishing options and styles, and tons of fish that you can see!

Yes you can catch a big fish there too.

It fits my fishing style much better than Falcon.

Going again next Feb! Counting the days!

No not sure where that info is coming from. Any town in Texas with any size has zetas locally.
