I went out yesterday to look for some blues and ended up spending way more time looking for bait instead. After looking all over the place we only had enough for 1 drift. In that short drift we picked up a 4lber and had a couple more bites. After all the fresh bait was gone we had to resort to frozen shad and didnt get another bite and we called it a day. Has anyone been finding any decent sized shad out there latly? I think it could have been a good day if we could have found some.
Thanks

Yes, they have moved out in to deep water. Check the old river channel.

I could imagine Shad was tough yesterday on Belton. These cooler temps, with the really low water levels, are making it tough to find bait sized shad for me. I have been catching a ton of small ones 1" or less. Last winter I had no problem catching nice size gizzards all winter long, mostly from the bank. All these places are now dry land.If you go to Mcgegor park cove late in the day with the sun out you should be able to catch some nice gizzards.
Another good place to catch shad on Belton is up cedar creek this time of year, either early in the morning or late in the day if the sun is out. You will see shad poppin on the water like crazy. Cedar creek is dry right now though, but I have been catching some nice shad up in the shallows around cedar ridge campgrounds. Also by the boatslips a the marina, just have to look for them on your graph and have a good heavy net.
