Having a problem with my 1990 proV 150. The engine runs fine after about 700rpm but during idle at 500rpm the engine spits a little and will quit after 30 seconds. It also act sluggish when you put it in to gear. As far as I can remember the problem started after I ran one of my tanks completely dry. Since the problem started I have added seafoam to the gas and new plugs. I talked to Plano Marine today and they are running about 10 days behind so would like to try fixing it myself before putting it in the shop. Any recommendations would be helpful.

Basslikeme check your carbs over real good had the same symptoms with my 88' model merc 150 the gaskets were blown on the carbs causing it to idle funny at around 700rpm but when i hammered down on the throttle it seized everthing up and run like a champ until i came back to an idle then it would idle funny again and just die out. If you have any problems give Tommy Yetts a call at Rockwall Marine (972-771-4442) he will definitly get you fixed up and make that pro v run like it is brand new again.

I'll secound Tommy at Rockwall Marine, he did a carb job on my Yamaha 200 and it runs like a champ and his turn around is most likely a lot quicker than Plano.

If I can't fix it my self I will definitely give Tommy a call. He is the one that looked the boat over for me before I bought it in 95. Must look them over really well because it has never seen the inside of another shop since.

A friend of mine suggested the fuel filter but I dont think I have one. I have a water separator ? clear bowl on the side of the engine that the fuel line run in and out of but that is all I can see in between the tank and the carburetors.

When your saying look at the gaskets is there anything that would be obvious from the outside ?

Basslikeme I'am not sure i wouldn't want to steer you in the wrong direction. The information was relayed to me from Tommy Yetts after he diagnosed my merc. But not being a boat mechanic but also being mechaniclly inclined myself see if you can get a hold of a repair manual for that motor it should show a break down of the carbs and that in return should show you the complete gasket setup for your outboard carbs it could simply be some screws that are a part of the carbs were the gaskets are loose may just need tightning. But if you know of the carbs never being rebuilt or if it has been awhile you might want to have Tommy take a look at it for you and get his profressional opinion maybe getting them rebuilt. Sorry i hope i didn't confuse ya. GOOD LUCK!!

Heard too many great things about Tommy at Rockwall Marine not to give him a call. He's the man!

Quick follow up. I took the boat over to Rockwall Marine on Saturday, Tommy called me Monday to let me know that was my carburetors. He said after rebuilding the carburetors hes going to put the motor on the dyno to make sure everything else is tuned and it should be ready by Wed or Thu.

And to think, I though I was going to be missing out on something this week. Looking at the weather this week I have been quietly laughing inside.
