I have a 2002 74lb MinnKota hand control. When I am riding in rough water, the "pivot pin", that is basically the pin that hinges when you lower or bring up the trolling motor, begins to come out. Has anyone experienced this problem? If so, how did you fix it??

Thanks in advance!!

Maybe, I have a 65AP and this is what I had to do.

Take the two side panels off, ther is a rubber bushing with two plate on each side of it. I bet one of the metal plates has come out.

Just take the keeper off the pivot pin and push the pin out. Fix the bushing back up like it needs to be and reinsert the pivot pin and place the keeper back on.

I have a 101 minn kota and fished the cedar creek tournament w/baschamps. the waves were nasty and needless to say I get beat to death. the pin came out on one side and the trolling motor would not go all the way down. I had to beat the pin back in for it to go down. any help would be appreciated.

The pin on my minn kota has a small hole drilled in it with a pin to keep it from going any where.

No seriously, Its just started happening to me, I'm going to look into something to fix it. I don't need to be worrying about that.

I have a minn kota, I don't understand what you guys are talking about. I have had problems unlocking it or having it latch when deployed, but a little grease in the right spots fixed that. Do you guys have the quick release types?

I spoke with Southwestern parts and they suggested to knock the pin all the way out then reinsert it backwards. They said the actual housing is the problem. It gets bored out after a while and lets the pin start to slide out.
I am thinking about having the pin spot welded in place.

Anyone else had any luck??

Putting that pin it backwards is not going to work. One side of that pin has a serrated edge to grab the allunminum baseplate. In time, that aluminum baseplate gets warbled out by the serrated edge.If the problem is so bad that the pin is just sliding in and out, you'll need to have the baseplate changed. This is a job you can do youselves, its really just a matter of knocking the pin out and taking the other 2 shoulder bolts out. I'll be glad to help over the phone.
