I only know one fishing knot, the 'improved clinch knot' I believe it is called. A friend of mine mentioned that he was learning to tie some other knot that was supposed to be better for holding the jig horizontal in the water. Is that important? What knots work best for jigging? I'm sure this has been addressed before, but I hate the search function on here

A Rapala loop knot is what use. Since I began using this knot, my catch rate has gone up! It allows the jig to hang horizontal, which is a more natural look.

I use an improved clinch knot also.... Tied to a hook snap so I can change jigs easy...

I've been using the Reverse Clinch Knot for a year now and it's easy, fast & strong IMHO.

I use the reverse clench, there was a guy with a machine at academy for the grand opening testing different knots that people tied, the reverse clench not held to 14 lbs of pressure on 10 pound line and the line snapped not the knot or at the knot. just make sure you do at least 6 wraps, on small line, you can do 7 or 8.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

I figured there would be a lot of different answers. I'm going to start learning some knots in my spare time (whatever that means). The reverse clinch looks pretty simple if I can remember how to do it backwards.

I've been using the clinch knot for forty years or so and thats on everything, including the 104 lb grouper offshore.

Either a double loop knot directly to a jig OR an improved cinch knot to a No Knot clip is what I normally use..

Clinch or others work until the jig bumps into something, then it may not hang horizontal anymore. With a loop knot, it will always 'float' in the horizontal position. +1 Simple overhand loop knot.
