I was wondering if anyone knew what the speed of a 50hp Johnson pushing a 16 ft. aluminum boat would be? I am only getting about 25 miles per hour out of mine. (I am 300 lbs though) 5500 rpms. Does this seem about right?

That seems slow to me, I owned a 15' Deep-V aluminum with 25 hp mercury, with two in boat (350 lbs) total, it does 23 mph, per my GPS.

We had a 16' Bluefin with a 50ho Force. Deep V with all "bass boat' accessories. 33 mph was about tops. Plenty fast for a fishing boat.

I've got a 60-hp 4 stroke on a 17.5 foot aluminum hull (both 1-1/2 years old) and it hits about 5500 rpm at 35 mph with my 280-pounds and another passenger over 200-lbs.

I had a 15.5 foot bayliner with a 50 HP Force motor. It ran about 30 MPH with two people in it. I was a lot skinnier then. Depending on the boat there may be nothing wrong with your results.

A good tune up never hurts though.

Presently I get about 6.7 miles per hour in my Jon Boat with a 5HP Briggs. People laugh at my boat until I open my live well,

That is not a pad hull, everyone else that is comparing your aluminum boat to their fiberglass boat is comparing apples to oranges. Pad hull are faster boats. 25mph with a 50hp motor on a loaded aluminum boat is good. If you want more speed out of that, try smart tabs or something like that. But realisticly, you are running optimim right now.

That is slow for sure. What type of hull/manufacturer is the boat?

Well you guys are just flat out making me feel bad (slow). But I am use to it being an old 300 lb lineman I was never much for speed....I just was wondering if I had everything set up fine. It is a 1993 50 HP Johnson pushing a 1648B Grumman Aluminum boat that it loaded with flooring a fore and aft casting deck, trolling motor ect. It seems like it is running on top of the water like it should now that I lowered the motor mount, before the motor was cavitating badly. Now it is running good maybe 28 mph down hill!

I am getting my speed on the speedometer...everbody else is using the GPS speed that doesn't discount the rotation of the Earth and the speed of the orbit of the satellite. You guys are actually only moving 24-26 mph...I feel a lot better now!!!
