I have found the best way to catch them is to rig a 4lb test line with worms, and fish like you were trying to catch bream and perch.

Slow with slight jerks? alternate slow to medium speed with a gold super duper. inline spinners work too.... but i have always killed them on superduper
Set the hook..... It's free.

Is it neccessary to have a license when fishing for trout in the city parks? I would like to take my brother this year in hopes he will catch the "fishing bug" but doubt he will spring for a license Take him the the Cedar Hill state park pond that gets stocked the 10th of Jan. No licence required there and maybe you can get him hooked enough to buy one.

Take him and buy him a license for Christmas, or just go fishing in state parks.
May the Good Lord bless you with a bend in your rod.

What size & style of hook do you guys use? I've been searching around for some info & the information seems to be pretty varied...from #10 up to #18 treble hooks to #10 or #12 circle hooks.
AdannV...I'll be out at Mary Jo Peckham as well. December 2nd is my Friday off...so I plan to be out there pretty early setting up for some cats while I wait for the truck to arrive.

I'm using #6 and #8 Owner mosquito hooks with power worms and power bait. Sometimes flinging flies, sometimes in line spinners and super doopers... Just depends on what they want.... Don't know why but it's differant every year.

Agree things change each year. Here is a link ( Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing: Top 5 Lures and Baits for Community Lakes) that we have been using to post information on lures and baits that have worked in the past. We summarize the information and post a summary. Each year the results support the following: When fishing with lures make sure to bring: - SuperDupers (Gold and Copper) - Roostertails (White and Yellow) - Wooley Buggers (size 14) - Gold-Ribbed Hares Ear Nymphs (size 10-14) - Panther Martin Spinners (Yellow w/ Black-Dotted blade) When fishing with bait bring: - Powerbait Trout Paste (Orange and Chartreuse) - Kernel Corn - White Bread - Velveeta Cheese Also, be prepared to switch lures/baits often, and use hooks in size 10-14 as the Trout are typically 9" to 12" in size.

Thanks for the awesome info on baits and lures. Other than the obvious answer of "when you can," when's the best day/time to go? Do y'all go on the day that the trout are stocked or do you wait a day or two? If you go on the day they're stocked, do y'all have any idea if they're generally stocked first thing in the morning or does it vary widely. I'm going to take my 5 & 6 year old daughters and want to go when they have the best chance of catching fish. Thanks!

Please note that they don't follow that schedule to a Tee. Sometimes they do it a day early or late. Best to call to confirm.
From my experience action is good on lures up to 4-5 days after stocking. Then powerbait will work well after.
