Hey guys...I was told to to put my motor in gear while going down the hiway...to keep the propeller from turning ??
Is this true and will it make the lower unit last longer??

The turning of the boat motor prop actually assists you down the highway facilitating fuel economy.

Redfin- Are you trying to tell him it is okay as long as it isn't in reverse??? That way the boat won't try to back off the trailer??? You aren't over at "the" hospital are you??

I guess I would if I had a pontoon boat that travels with the motor all the way down blowin in the breeze. I have only seen 1 motor with a prop spinning going down the road and it was spinning at about 2-3 RPM's, hardly fast enough to build up any heat. This was on a bassboat with transom saver and motor tilted up about half the distance I do mine. I have never seen a pontoon boats prop spinning in the breeze and all of em I've seen hung straight down. Maybe they all put em in gear, I don't know. IMHO, myth.

I don't think I have ever noticed a boat going down the road with the prop spinning either. Is this for real?

Legend has it that the biggest problem with the prop spinning freely on the trailer while underway is when trying to come to a stop. Many have reported being pushed through the intersection because the prop was still spinning!

it doesn't matter foward or rev as long as it lock ... they may not blow when you see boats go buy ... but the wind hits them just right they will turn .... I have done this for year's .... belive it or not...I'll keep doing it ...
