Stone cold killer. Beautiful birds. I shot a pheasant one time and had one come down and pick it up and fly way. But, he dropped it right on the road right next to the truck.

So, they make good bird dogs too!

Great pics. Love hawks and other raptors. I have seen them drop out of the sky to nab quail.

That's actually an immature Coopers Hawk.

Notice the bars on his tail feathers (red-tails are well... solid red...), the delicate talons on huge feet (red-tails have proportionally smaller feet with stubby talons) and the short accipters wings (red-tails have long broad wings for soaring). His frame is also the more aggressive shape of an accipter. Unlike the buteos(hawks) that are built for soaring efficiency accipiters are built for quick turns and manuevering in dense forest.

His eyes will go red when he matures, looks amazing. Super rare chance to photograph a Coppers Hawk so close. The accipiter family has a reputation for being crazy and easily spooked.
