Have heard stories about this area i.e. bullets whizzing by... is this area dangerous to fish in? Do bullets/clay traps end up in the water?

Thats why 80 percent of the fisherman wear helmets and bullet proof jackets. The other 20 percent get hit and fall into the creek.

fishing is good during the run, but fish at your own risk

I have fished down there many times. A thread like this could get the gun range in alot of trouble. No, I have never had to dodge bullets!!! Two things, they have big dirt burms that won't allow that to happen, and the creek is down. You have to go down some deep cut banks to get to it.

If you park AT the gun range you might get shot or worse get your car towed.

It's more likely for you to slip, fall in the creek, and be stabbed in the carotid artery by a sandbass..... rolleyes

Lol! So true. I've lived in area my whole life and had zero problems. I actually live in the exact neighborhood south of the gun range where the guy was shot. His lawyer sent me a letter asking if I had expierenced any bullets, or thought it was unsafe ect. I told him that it was a joke that they were so badly looking for someone to blame that they had to look at the gun range to blame just because it was there. I asked how they could prove someone didn't shoot a 22 out of their car while driving down castle rd. YOU CANT. Its a joke. I used to shoot dove off the power lines at the dump from my truck when I was 16 and 17 during dove season. I'm sure people have drove down that rd and done a lot worse than that! So your answer is perfectly safe! lol

I dont think safety is the issue. More so then the hassle of the gunrange trying to run you off and getting into a debate about "whats legal and not", then trying to explain it to the officer that was called. This has not happened to me personally but I heard enough stories to make it not worth it to me

not this issue again. Every year though......

If you are fishing in the creek, u have no issues down there. U are below the range 30 ft in the creek. Bullets can't drop 30 ft and go str8 down and kill u. Have y'all noticed that no one has "ever" said, " I got hit by a bullet at rowlett creek?

I have been guiding and fishing this exact spot for 15 years now, every single year and 90 to 120 days a year. I have never had an issue except slipping down a muddy cliff. That's why I wear kleets there now.

OK, so they have a system in place to prevent the bullets from leaving the gun range area? I didn't realize that because I heard that the bullets would hit the upper area of the high water level, i.e. the flood level, and drop down into the water.

I'm not trying to get the range in trouble, just wondering what the actual situation is and whether they have done anything to keep the lead and clay shots out of the creek, especially when there are hoards of people flooding down there every spring to catch sandbass and crappie.

I have fished down there before but not while the range is busy and so haven't noticed any stray bullets flying around... so I'm guessing from everyone's responses that the berm is effective in keeping the bullets from flying into the creek then?

no no no. read it again! where you are fishing is in the bottom of a creek. you will not get hit by a bullet nor a clay piggon. nothing will happen to you! like carey said you will be ok! park at the creek bridge or down the road to the left right before and after the road. you wont be towed or killed by a bullet. you will slip 100% but you will not be hit by a bullet. you will be just fine. may get peppered a time or to but it will not hurt you! just so you know! when the say pull, the little orange thing goes up in the air! there is a huge hill at the gun range that catches all of the clay. dont worry about it! your fine!!!
