was out on the lake yesterday and my 85 force fired right up after sitting for about two week's.got to my perfered spot shut the engine and fished for about 1 hour.when i went to start the motor the starter would not engage or throw the gear up it would just spin in place after a little wd-40 and a few tap's to the starter with the handle of a screwdriver it fired right up.first time this has happend to me is the starter about to give and can a rebuilt kit cure this common problem with force engines i hear.

Nah, if it keeps it up just have it re-built.
I had this happen to me on an old '76 Johnson 65hp motor.After I put a little one lube on it ,never had the problem again.

thank's skeeterhawk,after i sprayed it i was running up and down the lake stopping for about 45min at each spot all day and it never did it again?go figure.

SOUNDS LIKE THE BENDIX IN THE STARTER IS GOING.

Lubricate!!!!

Same thing happened to me last year with my Johnson 35, after the tapping and WD 40. I greased the heck out of it, not a bit of a problem sense.
