Occasionally, when I try to start my Johnson, the key won't turn. It's as if the boat is in gear, but it's definitely in neutral. It's been getting worse lately. Anyone know what might cause this and what I can do about it? Maybe I just need to give the ignition a big squirt of WD-40?

uhh, you might try Viagra laugh

I had the same problem -- the throttle control linkage had loosened to the point that drive and neutral were basically the same -- you might try taking the cover off of the throttle control and seeing if that is your problem -- just tighten it back up and you should be good to go

Thanks for the tips guys! I took the cover off the throttle control last night and saw a switch in there secured by two screws. The switch had slipped so far to the side that it was staying disengaged. This was causing the ignition to think that the boat was in gear when it was really in neutral. I loosened the screws, moved the switch back in position, and tightened the screws back down. The key turns every time now. Problem solved, no Viagra required wink

I dont know what you did,but neutral safety switch has nothing to do with the key other than keeping it from starting in gear,if it were me i would change the key switch because when it quits it will be in the middle of the lake.Just my thoughts good luck.
