how does one clean out a clogged speedometer opening on a Hg motor?

Hg is the symbol for Mercury!!!
When that happens on mine, I just use a small drill bit to cut through the gunk and get it out. I always do that by hand rather than in a drill because I don't want to run the risk of cutting through metal. A word of caution though -- keep the drill bit inserted staight in the hole. If you get it in a bind and break it off, it will be difficult, if not impossible to remove the broken-off piece.

same as C. said but usually you can see above the lower unit a small section of the pitot line. disconnect there also and try to blow out the debris.
